For a small town, Burton has an amazing number of structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Burton Commercial Historic District. Thanks to hard work by members of the Burton Heritage Society back in the 1990s (namely Annie Maud Avis) and the Texas Historical Commission, these properties were designated in 1991.
